OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books)

Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) is a state-wide reading competition open to all 3rd-5th graders. Students will read from a set list of 16 books and compete against other teams by memorizing all the authors and titles and answering highly-detailed trivia questions based on book content. They meet once a week to practice with their teams in the library to prepare for the February school battles and early March Regional battles (for the top school team).

* OBOB Director: Kathryn Melvin, Librarian, 541-757-5950,  kathryn.melvin@corvallis.k12.or.us

* October-February (early March for winning school team)

* Permission Slip Due: Permission slips are made available to students at the end of September and students have two weeks to get their permission slips turned in to Mrs. Melvin in the Library.

Kids should know that this club is a fun way to celebrate books with friends on their team and that it requires a lot of reading and missing one lunch recess break per week every single week. Parents should know that this is a highly competitive club and that support at home with the book list is really helpful. Several parent volunteers are necessary to make OBOB successful especially for two full weeks in February when the school battles begin.
